A local family is hosting a dance tomorrow night to raise money for their daughter’s trip to Hollywood in January.
South Kitsap resident Donna Williams said her daughter, 14-year-old Keonna Evans, was chosen by a Seattle agency to attend iPOP!, a convention in Los Angeles that connects singers, dancers, models and actors with agents.
Williams said her daughter does all four pursuits, but is particularly focused on her singing.
“She loves to sing, and she is also recording a demo disc,” Williams said, explaining that she decided to host the fundraiser to pay for her and her daughter to attend the convention Jan. 14.
“We have to come up with $1,500 for the plane tickets, food, and for a photo shoot,” she said.
The dance will feature a local DJ who is volunteering her time, along with drinks donated by the Bremerton Bottling Company, and pizza donated by local companies. The $10 cost is half for the pizza and half for the dance.
Williams said the dance is for teens aged 13 to 18, and that plenty of adults — parents, teachers and others — will be on-hand to chaperone.
Williams said in addition to her singing her other talents, Keonna is class president at Marcus Whitman Junior High School, carries a 4.0 grade point average, and plays basketball, volleyball and track.
“She is quite amazing,” she said, adding that she had “no idea” where her daughter gets the energy to accomplish all she does.
