A trial date has been set for June 2 for a woman accused of second-degree murder of her father because of neglect.

On April 10, Renee Robert Nash, 58, of Port Orchard, pleaded not guilty. Nash’s father, 97-year-old Harlan Haynes, was found dead in his home on March 12. She was charged March 26 in Kitsap County District Court.

The county coroner’s office and a forensic pathologist indicated the cause of death — on March 10 — was from malnutrition and dehydration, stated court records.

Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputies determined Nash had been acting as her father’s guardian and his sole care provider since 2004.

Court documents stated that Nash called 911 after she found her father not breathing and stiff at his home in the 1900 block of Lonely Owl Lane in South Kitsap about 6:41 p.m. March 12. When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered the man’s home was in a “deplorable” condition with an overwhelming odor of urine, cluttered with trash and animal feces.

Nash’s bail was lowered from $500,000 to $250,000.
