Oscar R. Foss, 87, of Poulsbo died on Jan. 17 of congestive heart failure. Foss was born on Jan. 27, 1921, to Victor and Hilma (Sunberg) Foss in Poulsbo. On Aug. 27, 1947, he married Shirley L. Stevenson in Bremerton. She preceded Oscar in death on Feb. 5, 2008. Foss was part owner and operator of Foss Brother’s Slaughter House in Poulsbo for a period of 35 years and retired in 1983. Foss also worked as a custodian in the North Kitsap School District and retired in 1989. He enjoyed camping, fishing, smelting at the ocean, winemaking, cutting lumber in his mill, horseshoes and spending time with his family. Foss was also preceded in death by siblings, Russell Foss, Edith Dunn, Maynard Foss and May Hill; and a son, Dennis D. Foss. He is survived by sons: Richard (Patricia) Foss and Ronald (Hermalinda) Foss; grandchildren: Raymond, April, Emily, Jessica, Christopher, Ryan, Jennifer, Rachel and Jeff; and 14 great-grandchildren. A memorial pot luck will be held in Poulsbo at 21315 Pugh Road NE at noon on Feb. 21. Inurnment will be at Poulsbo City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary.
