Inez “Aina” T. Grande of Silverdale died of congestive heart failure Oct. 11, 2006, at Northwoods Lodge.
She was born on Oct. 9, 1909, in Ely, Minn., to Finnish immigrants Andrew and Maria (Korpi) Saari. She graduated from Ely High School in 1927.
In 1939, she married Marvin Grande in Duluth, Minn. He preceded her in death in 2001.
Mrs. Grande worked at Keyport Torpedo Station and lived on Chico Way for 55 years. She was a member of the Silverdale Garden Club, the Kitsap Mycological Society and the Unity Church. Mrs. Grande was known for her Finnish bread, good humor and loving nature. She also loved birds and classical music.
Mrs. Grande is survived by her daughter Karen (Phil) Best of Chico; grandchildren Sarah (Gordy) Dhatt of Spokane, Mary (Roger) Zabinski of Chico, Aaron (Roswitha) Best of Berlin, Germany, and Peter (Joy) Namtvedt Best of Bainbridge Island; and seven great-grandchildren.
In lieu of services, hikes are planned for summer 2007 to two of her favorite places in Olympic National Park. Memorial donations are asked for the Kitsap Audubon Society, Bremerton Symphony or CK Food Bank. Arrangements by Linde Family Funeral Service.
