Dennis Albert Murphy died Oct. 12, 2006, in Port Orchard. He was 92.
The Port Orchard resident was born April 21, 1914, in Alto, Texas, to Joe and Gracie (Lout) Murphy. He graduated from Alto High School in 1932.
In July 1937, Mr. Murphy began his career in the U.S. Navy, rising to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer before he left the service in January 1956.
After getting out of the Navy, he worked as an electrician until his retirement in 1978.
He married Jane Bundy in San Diego on June 2, 1941. She preceded him in death in 1998.
Mr. Murphy was a member of the Hood Canal Masonic Lodge in Belfair, the Shriners, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Legion. He enjoyed playing golf, leather work, bowling, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by: his son Joel Charles (Holly) Murphy of Wenatchee; daughter Denise Murphy of Kelso; sister Mabel Richards of Tuscola, Texas; grandchildren Jeremiah (Chalane) Murphy of Wenatchee and Cameron Murphy of Kelso; friend Evelyn Miller and the staff at Mariner’s Glen Apartments. Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his brother Leon Murphy of Dayton, Texas, and daughter Jane Murphy.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. today, Oct. 18, at Lewis Funeral Chapel, followed by a reception at Mariner’s Glen Apartments in Port Orchard. Inurnment at Leavenworth (Wash.) Cemetery. Arrangements by Lewis Funeral Chapel. Online memorial at www.lewischapel.com.
