Bob York

Clarence Robert York, better known as Bob to his family and friends, died July 18, 2006 at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton. The Silverdale resident was 78.

Mr. York was born in Edmonds, Wash., to Fay and Esther York. After high school he served two years in the Army and then attended Washington State University where he graduated with his teaching certificate. He started teaching in the Bremerton School District before Olympic College sent him over to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard to teach at the apprentice school. It was there he spent the majority of his 30-year teaching career.

When not in the classroom, Mr. York enjoyed family gatherings, restoring classic cars and woodworking. He also served as a Silverdale Water District commissioner from 1963 until 1971.

Mr. York is survived by Elizabeth Gardner York, his wife of 16 years, and her children Gwyneth Dee Ball, Andrew Gardner, Steve Gardner, Rosemary Gardner, Tim Gardner and Carolyn Gonzales; sisters Mary Warren of Silverdale, Nancy (Bob) Plaisance of Allyn and Jean Kraft of Port Angeles; brother William (Laura) York; and nieces and nephews Tim Knapp, Jim Knapp, Dianne Soderlund, Steve Plaisance, Chris Plaisance, Troy Plaisance, Tim York, David York and Mindy York.

He was preceded in death by Acklin Knapp, his first wife whom Mr. York married in 1952.

A celebration of Mr. York’s life is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, July 31, at Silverdale Lutheran Church, 11701 Ridgepoint Drive Northwest. Memorial donations are requested for Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue.
