Donna Klopfer

Donna Lucille Stewart Carkeek Klopfer

March 3, 1928 – April 23, 2016

Donna Klopfer passed away on April 23, 2016, after a long battle with cancer. She leaves behind a large extended group of family and friends as she made friends wherever she went.

Donna was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, graduated from Haverford High School, and after visiting relatives in the Seattle area fell in love with the west coast mountains.

She married Richard Wesley Carkeek in 1948 and raised four children in Bellevue. She was active in many volunteer activities including Girl Scouts, The League of Women Voters and her church.

In 1984, she married Florenz Dudley “Dud” Klopfer and moved to the Olympic Peninsula where they lived in Bremerton, Sequim and Silverdale. She and “Dud” enjoyed traveling, gardening and spending time at cabins on Eagle Lake, British Columbia and Priest Lake, Idaho, and their house on Nimpo Lake, BC.

While living in Sequim, she volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in cases involving children, which she found very fulfilling.

After Dud passed away in 2005, Donna moved to Seattle where she continued making new friends and traveling whenever she could. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She leaves behind four children, Nancy Willner, Carla Hanvold, Diane Reichel and Richard Carkeek; six grandchildren, Julia Willner, Laura Willner, Christopher Hanvold, Scott Hanvold, Peter Reichel and Eric Reichel; and three great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Isla Lee and Macie Hanvold.

Remembrances can be made in Donna’s name to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation at www.CCFA.org or CASA at www.casaforchildren.org.
