Frederick Blatt

Frederick E. “Fritz” Blatt, 86, died Oct. 15, 2006, in Bremerton.

Mr. Blatt started his career as a boilermaker at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard apprentice program in January 1954. When he retired in July 1977, he was the general foreman of the yard’s boiler shop.

He was born Dec. 28, 1919, in Pine River, Wisc., to Swiss immigrants John and Verena (Wenger) Blatt.

While on leave from the U.S. Army Air Corps where he served in Italy during World War II as a radio operator, he married Marjorie Byrl Van Natta on July 19, 1943 in Seattle. She preceded him in death in May 1999.

Mr. Blatt was a 35-year member of the Bremerton Elks Lodge, American Legion Post 68 and the Lewis-Pacific County Swiss Society. He enjoyed spending winters in Yuma, Ariz., Swiss music and dancing, bowling, shuffleboard, hunting deer, elk and moose and salmon fishing both locally and in Alaska.

He is survived by his son Rick (Sally) Blatt of Tuscon, Ariz.; daughters Judy (Dean) Jenniges of Bremerton, Charlotte (Jim) Maroldo of Orange Park, Fla., and Virgene (Bob) Wildner of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; brother Ernest (Mary) Blatt of Pe Ell, Wa.; sisters Ruby (Steve) Yost of Apopka, Fla., and Rose McChesney of Walla Walla, Wa.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers John and Edwin and sisters Martha and Hedwig.
