Alan Moore Somers died Feb. 9, 2008 at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle. He was 60.
Mr. Somers was born in Seattle on Sept. 11, 1947, attended Roosevelt High School and then graduated from the University of Puget Sound.
He and his family had resided in Kingston since 1989. In 1991, he opened Cruise Holidays of Silverdale and arranged for many West Sound residents’ cruise vacations over the years.
He was active in Kiwanis and was on the Board of Directors for Rainier Pacific Bank in Tacoma. He also was a life member of Queen City Yacht Club in Seattle and was affiliated with Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He had a long and varied career in banking prior to starting Cruise Holidays.
Mr. Somers also spent a number of years in the credit union industry, including starting up a mortgage banking operation for the Washington State Credit Union League.
Above all else, he loved the water and boats. He spent his entire life on, in, and around the waters of Puget Sound.
Mr. Somers was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Victoria.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Sue; his 3-year-old twin boys, Nicky and Teddy; and his aunt Lorraine Somers of West Vancouver, BC.
Although he was a quiet and private man, Mr. Somers touched many lives and he will be greatly missed. There will be a celebration of his life at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Kiana Lodge on the shores of Agate Passage. Memorials may be made to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America.
