Sidney Joseph Sterling Jr., of Bremerton, died June 17, 2007, of an invasive cancer at Harrison Medical Center. He was 59.
Mr. Sterling was born on Feb. 4, 1948, in Lafayette, La. to Marjorie (DeQuer) and Sidney J. Sterling Sr.
He graduated from Lafayette High School and Olympic College. He married Vikki S. Kaiser on June 16, 1977, in Oceanside, Calif.
Mr. Sterling served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 until retiring in 1991, serving during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Navy, he became the groundskeeper for MWR, caring for all sports for the military community. He took full responsibility for ensuring that Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor had a women’s softball team.
He was a member of the Kitsap County Bowling Community. Mr. Sterling also was an avid golfer and had a passion for all aspects of softball.
Mr. Sterling is survived by his wife Vikki of Silverdale; son Sidney Joseph III; daughter McKenzie Sterling; brother Jack Sterling; sisters Geraldine and Deborah Sterling; and granddaughter Lilith French.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, June 29, at Lewis Chapel. Memorial donations are asked for Hospice of Kitsap County. An online memorial can be viewed at www.lewischapel.com
