Allen M. Moore
September 12, 1950 – March 24, 2016
Allen McMaster Moore was born Sept. 12, 1950 in Everett, Washington to Glen and Helen Moore, their second child. He was named after his grandfather, Allen R. Moore. McMaster, his middle name, was his mother’s maiden name. He went to be with Jesus on March 24, 2016, after a two-and-one-half year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Allen attended public school in Everett and graduated from Everett High School in 1968. He attended Seattle Pacific College, graduating in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in engineering science. Summer jobs included working for a logging company in Lester, Washington, and working as a camp counselor at The Firs in Bellingham.
He worked for Black, Clausen, Burnup and Sims drafting until 1974 when he worked as an electrician for Flodin Inc., Sunnyside, Washington. A job opened up for him on the line crew of United Telephone Company where he signed on Oct.20, 1975. He moved up to an engineer, then expeditor, transferring to White City, Oregon where he lived for 19 years. In all, he worked for the phone company 40-plus years. He invented and patented a tool to be used in engineering offices.
He married Karen Fouts of Seattle June 5, 1976. They welcomed three children; Joseph (Carrie) Moore of Bremerton, Elizabeth (James) Newman of Bremerton, and Katherine (Garrett) Haynes of Auburn, and later welcomed granddaughters Lucy and Amy Moore and a Newman granddaughter is expected to be born in June. They also hosted many foreign exchange students.
Living in Eagle Point, Oregon, he was involved with Eagle Point Community Bible Church and Brownsboro Community Church. He was elected to the city council and was a member of the Speakers’ Bureau for United Telephone Company.
The phone company changed names to Sprint, later Embarq and Century Link. They transferred Allen to the engineering office in Poulsbo, Washington in March 1997. He became a member of North Kitsap Baptist Church working with the youth and in AWANA which included playing his guitar. He also was a member of the Underground Utility Locating Council, volunteering at home shows. He helped his wife with many Girl Scout activities, foreign exchange students and helped with his son’s Boy Scout troop as an adult volunteer.
He received a master’s degree in marriage and family counseling in June 2009 from City University. He began a counseling office in Poulsbo and counseled many in the Poulsbo community.
He enjoyed reciting from memory poems by Robert Service, “The Shooting of Dan McGrew” and “The Cremation of Sam McGee”. He also recited and performed a dramatization of the book of Philippians from The Bible.
Besides his wife, children and grandchildren, Allen is survived by his sister, Rhoda (George) Gage of Bremerton and their three children, Abel (Rachel) Gage of Burlington, Miriam (Ron) Wall of Bremerton, and Hannah (Kevin) Haag of Seattle, and three great-nephews and one great-niece.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. April 9 at the North Kitsap Baptist Church in Poulsbo, followed by a committal service for immediate family members at 4 p.m. at the Poulsbo City Cemetery.
