Lucille Carmen Weisenberger

Lucille Carmen Weisenberger, 94, formerly of Kingston, passed away on November 11, 2015. Lucille was born to Charles and Mary Jellesma on April 7, 1921, in Athboy, South Dakota. They moved to Kingston in November, 1922. She graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1939 and then from Western Washington College of Education in Bellingham. She also attended the University of Washington.

She taught elementary grades in North Kitsap Schools for twenty years and was Wolfle School Librarian for fifteen years after that. She was honored by having the library named for her when she retired in 1981. She also received the PTA Golden Acorn Award.

She was a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Port Gamble Orthopedic Guild, League of Women Voter’s and the Kingston Grange. She was active in Tops, St. Catherine’s Society, Red Hat Society, Kingston Historical Society, Kingston Super Seniors and the Retired School Employee’s Association.

She thoroughly enjoyed retirement. She volunteered for North Kitsap Fishline for over ten years. She helped at elections by being the Democratic coordinator of elections for North Kitsap for many years.

She and her cousin, Marie, took many interesting Elderhostel trips. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, reading, crossword puzzles, Television, especially Channel 9 (PBS) and Turner Classic movies, and she liked the Point and Clearwater, especially to eat and play “Fairy’s Fortune”.

She was preceded in death by her friends Milly, Mary, Elnor, Harriet, Verna and Willie. She is survived by one son, Rev. Father Gary Weisenberger, a Senior Priest of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle. She is also survived by three cousins, Marie Turowski, Elsie Halvorson, Grace Honkomp and many other relatives in South Dakota, Wisconsin, Austria and Holland.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Olaf’s Church in Poulsbo at eleven a.m. Wednesday, November 18th, preceded by a Rosary at ten a.m.. Interment will follow at “Our Lady of Fatima” section at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Bremerton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a local food bank, the North Kitsap Pool or Humane Society.
