Richard Hughes Jones Jr., 74
Richard Hugh Jones Jr., 74 died July 26 at his home in Kingston.
Jones was born on Oct. 31, 1933.
At age 16, Richard was the youngest member in the history of the Utah Symphony, playing the lead clarinet. After high school he attended the Julliard School of Music but entered the United States Army after his sophomore year to serve in Korea.
Upon the completion of his service, he returned to New York and attended Columbia University where he graduated with a degree in engineering.
After working in New York on computer-related projects, he was hired by Boeing and relocated to Seattle.
He eventually settled in Kingston.
Jones was a board member and frequent visitor to the Lord’s Neighborhood Diner in Bremerton. He also enjoyed his brief time at the Tacoma Boxing Club as the club’s oldest participant at 73.
He is survived by his niece, Susan Burns, of Durham, N.C.; and his nephew, Steven N. Stover of Los Angeles.
Jones was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Hugh Jones and Bessie M. Jones; his sister, Betsy Mae Jones; and his grandnieces Mia Suzette Stover and Jenna Juliette Stover.
