Russell G. Armstrong

Russ was born on June 17, 1927 in Pontiac Mich., to Russell George and Maybelle Armstrong (Koontz) and died on Dec. 9.

He grew up on a farm and in 1944 he answered the call to serve his country and joined the U.S. Navy. In 1955, he married the love of his life Doris May Armstrong (Kosmecki). They were married for 51 years before she preceded him in death on Jan. 7, 2007.

During his long Naval career, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, China Service Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze stars for his service in the “Brown Water Navy.” He retired as a Boatswain’s Mate Master Chief in 1974 after 30 years of honorable service. Russ was a humble man who saidhe just did his job to the best of his ability. He loved to take trips to Reno, and attend his grand-childrens’ sports games and school events.

Russ is survived by his sister Ruth Carney of Woodland, Texas. His daughter Russy Armstrong-Minder (George) of Poulsbo, son Russell J Armstrong (Kelli) of Marysville. Grandchildren Kaylha, Russell GH, Cheyenne, Stevie, Zane, Madison and Shea. At his request, no service will be held.
