Norman S. Livers died Jan. 27 in Poulsbo. He was 79.

Livers was born to Morris and Florence (Bell) Livers in Oberon, N.D. on Sept. 21, 1923.

He married Lavaun Bergoust on Oct. 5, 1946 in Moorhead, Minn.

Livers graduated from Oberon High School in Oberon, N.D. in 1941.

He served in the U.S. Navy from October 1942 to November 1945 and served as an aviation radioman. He worked as a freight agent for the Northern Pacific Railroad and for the Burlington Northern Railroad. During his tenure with the railroad, Livers and his family lived in Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana and Washington. He moved to Seattle in 1968 and worked for the American Association of Railroads on the Agency and Terminal Committee until his retirement in 1980.

Livers was a long-time member of Poulsbo’s First Lutheran, the Masonic lodge of Poulsbo, Scottish Rite and Shrine of Seattle, North Kitsap and Kitsap County Shrine Clubs, the Nile Oriental Band, Sons of Norway, North Kitsap Amateur Radio Club, American Legion and Poulsbo Police Department Senior Volunteers.

Livers is survived by his partner Alice Hanson; son Scott Livers of Seattle; daughters Luann (Arny) Gaetz of Monroe and Patty (Jason) Rice-Longo of Bellevue; brother John Livers of Sidney, Mont.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Livers was preceded in death by his wife Lavaun Livers and grandson Arnie Gaetz Jr.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Poulsbo First Lutheran Church. Committal will be held at a later date at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Bellevue.
