Lucile J. Peterson, 90
Lucile J. Peterson, of Poulsbo, died April 15. She was 90.
Peterson was born to Albert and Lena Vaa in Hoquiam on February 1, 1918. Her family moved to Poulsbo shortly thereafter. She attended Vinland Elementary School and graduated from North Kitsap High in 1935.
In 1939, she married Eugene B. Peterson and they made their home in Seattle, where they lived until she retired from the Bon Marche and returned to Poulsbo in 1980.
Peterson was an active member at Vinland Lutheran Church. She loved dancing, painting, sewing and pinochle. She also had a passion for preserving her Norwegian heritage through rosemaling, hardanger, and cooking.
In 2000 she was honored as Woman of the Year by the Poulsbo Sons of Norway, where she was a long time member.
Peterson is preceded in death by her husband Gene and her brother Don Vaa. She is survived by her son Keith Peterson (Nina), daughter Jill Stark (William, deceased), granddaughters Kristine Clucas (Matthew) and Erika Bauman (Sean), and two great grandsons.
Services will be at 1 p.m. April 24 at Vinland Lutheran Church, Poulsbo.
