Samuel Cope, 87
Samuel Cope of Poulsbo died at Harrison Medical Center March 17. He was 87.
Cope was born in Fairview, N.J., to Samuel and May (Junkin) Black. He attended Maritime School, Explosive Ordinance School in Indian Head and graduated from Palm Beach Jr. College. He was a Merchant Marine Officer, Retired Naval Officer and worked for many years at the Charleston Naval Shipyard as a Tankerman.
Cope is survived by his wife Beatrice of Poulsbo; sons Brian Cope of Pitman, N.J.; Samuel Black of Richmond, Va.; daughters Carol Valentino of Richmond, Va., and Bethany Cope of Santa Fe, N.M.; grandchildren David and Savannah Valentino; Jamie and William Cope; and Benjamin and Patricia Black. Cope was a member of the Masonic Lodge and MCNEODA. He enjoyed sailing and tinkering with computers.
He will have full military honors and his ashes will be scattered by the U.S. Navy.
