Ruth L. Ring, 92
Ruth “Nani” Louise Ring died April 29, 2005 in Port Townsend. She was 92.
Ring was born to Lauritz and Ellen Marie Johansen in Brooklyn, N.Y. on June 8, 1912.
She married Harry Ring on Feb. 11, 1933.
In 1913, Ring and her family moved to Norway and she grew up in Arendal. She was orphaned at age 14 and was sent to the greater New York City area to live with distant immigrant relatives. At age 16, she began work as a maid and a receptionist for a doctor.
Following her marriage, Ring and her husband worked for 55 years in numerous capacities of Christian service, including serving churches in New York and Chicago and the Irondale Free Church. In 1971, her husband became the chaplain at Martha & Mary Lutheran Care Center in Poulsbo and the two cared for patients at the center.
Ring earned a 10,000-hour volunteer award from the Martha & Mary administration. Ring enjoyed art, crafts and caring for others.
She is survived by son Donald (Lynn) of Port Townsend; twin daughters Rachel (Burton) Hutley of Sequim and Ruth (Ozzie) Osborn of Port Townsend.
Ring was preceded in death by her infant son Donald and husband Harry.
A graveside service will take place at 2:30 p.m. May 8 at the Poulsbo Municipal Cemetery.
A memorial service, reunion and celebration are planned for late July and will be announced at a later date.
