Arleta C. (Card) Van Guilder died March 20 in Hansville. Van Guilder was born in Lewiston, Idaho on Oct. 17, 1922 to Charles and Leta Card. She married Paul W. Van Guilder on June 30, 1941 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He preceded her in death Feb. 1, 1998.
Van Guilder was an active member of the Hansville community, including Hansville Community Church and the “Solaterians.” As a member of the “Prayery Canaries” she yodeled, sang and played the harmonica. She also taught square dance to elementary students and coached the “Boot Scootin’ Grannies.” While living in Citrus Heights, Calif., she started a tap dancing group for seniors called the “Happy Tappers.” She and her husband, Paul, became square dance callers during this time. She taught all her children and many of her grand children to sing and dance. She was born to entertain, and through her entertainment, she made many people happy.
Van Guilder is survived by her children: Richard Van Guilder (Janice), Dee Ann Stiles (Wayne), Roy Van Guilder, Dean Van Guilder (Lynn) and Dona Kachele (David); brother Donald Higby (Sherry), sister-in-Law Marge Wright, 20 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, March 29, at The Greater Hansville Community Center at Buck Lake, 6959 Buck Lake Rd, Hansville. Visitation will be held March 26 – 28, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The Stone Chapel, 22772 Foss Road, Poulsbo, WA, 98370. A graveside service is planned for Sylvan Cemetery, 7401 Auburn Blvd, Citrus Heights, Calif. on Saturday, April 4, at 10 a.m. Remembrances can be made to one of Van Guild’s favorite charities: North Kitsap Hospice, Children’s Hospital, Seattle, WA or Harrison Hospital, Bremerton.
