Nancy Evans-Jones
July 12, 1946 – October 17, 2015
Nancy Evans-Jones died on Saturday, Oct.17, 2015 at the age of 69 after a brief but intense and courageous battle with cancer. She died peacefully at home, surrounded by family.
Nancy was born in Welch, West Virginia, on July 12, 1946. She spent her younger years in Baltimore, Maryland and Dayton, Ohio. She met her husband Frank in Cincinnati, Ohio, after which they moved to the pacific northwest. Nancy was a travel agent for many years. After moving to Kingston, she worked at Naval Base Kitsap for many years retiring as a regional manager for moral welfare, and recreation on Jan. 1, 2013.
Nancy was a very active long-time Unitarian Universalist. She was board president and membership chair at Cedars UU Church on Bainbridge Island, and she was a founding member and planning team chair of North Kitsap Unitarians in Poulsbo. Nancy was also a humanist celebrant, and enjoyed performing wedding ceremonies for those looking for a non-religious alternative. She was an avid gardener and loved tending her landscaping and garden at her home in Kingston. Nancy was also an ardent animal lover, supporting many animal charities, and well as providing for her pets at home. If it had fur or feathers and moved, she fed it.
She is survived by her husband Frank Mandt of Kingston, her brother Alan Jones of Ludlow Falls, Ohio, and her sister Maggie Panther of Canton, North Carolina.
