Olga Arne

Olga Arne, 93

Olga D. Arne, of Poulsbo, died April 7. She was 93.

Arne was born to Norwegian immigrants Thomas and Inger (Sovde) Hugo in Portland, Ore., on Dec. 31, 1914. Her family moved to Poulsbo in 1917.

Arne graduated from North Kitsap Union High School in 1932, Pacific Lutheran College in 1937 and the University of Washington in 1941. She taught in Kitsap County schools for more than 20 years, including three years at the two-room Harding School near Poulsbo.

Arne married John (Al) Arne on June 14, 1943. Their life together, both in raising a family and in service to their community, centered around Poulsbo’s First Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday school for many years and sewed many quilts for Lutheran World Relief.

Arne enjoyed sewing, crocheting, oil painting and reading. After retiring, she and her husband traveled the world, and they especially enjoyed trips to France to visit their daughter and family.

Arne is survived by her husband, Al; her son, Karl, of Seattle; his sons Jacob, of Rainier, and John (Kimberly and son William) of Fairbanks; her daughter Anne (Herve) Minec of Ore, France; her sons and families, Francois and Sophie (children Juliette and Valentin) of Hamburg, Germany, Jerome and Stef (daughter Angele) of Yerres, France, and Nicolas, of St. Petersburg, Russia; her daughter Lisbeth (Gary) Lusk of Bremerton, their daughters and families, Kimberly (Erik and daughter Sylvie) Manz of Spokane, and Kellee (Wally Jr. and daughter Taylor) Rubio of Tacoma.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on April 26 at First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo.
