It’s in the air again. Much like the birds and budding flowers of spring time, the feeling of pageant fever is once again sweeping through North Kitsap and beyond.
In Poulsbo and the North End, two separate pageants with three crowns will be showcasing some of the most talented young women in Kitsap County during the next two months.
In less than two weeks, 14 contestants will vie for the respective crowns of Miss Poulsbo and Miss Kitsap during a joint pageant in Bremerton.
Miss Poulsbo is in its 49th year and Miss Kitsap, which was derailed for a spell, is back on track and better than ever. Combining the two will surely mean an unforgettable evening of entertainment and will offer a chance for not only contestants to shine but for local third grade girls to step into the spotlight as well.
Little sisters may be a bit shorter than their mentors, but talent apparently does come in small packages. After keeping busy since January, they’ll be stealing the stage and hearts for some memorable moments before the crowns are awarded.
The winners will represent Poulsbo and Kitsap County for the next year and compete in the Miss Washington Pageant — a prelude to the world famous Miss America Pageant.
Then, in April at least four local ladies will vie for the coveted position of Miss Viking Fest.
The newer pageant is aimed at slightly younger talents but doesn’t miss a beat when it comes to putting on a great show. Miss Viking Fest and her royal court will represent Little Norway as well throughout the next year. Countless events call for appearances of royalty both locally and abroad.
The trio will also take center stage during the 2003 Viking Fest — Poulsbo’s annual celebration of Norwegian Constitution Day.
As pageant fever sweeps the region, we hope everyone gets caught up in it and supports their community’s chosen representatives.
These ladies have all worked hard and each deserves our appreciation.
