KCR fashion show makes a runway of Kiana Lodge

One can go out for dinner any time — the options abound. One could go out on the town, or to a tucked away steakhouse or even over to the city, but it’s likely that few of those locations could hold a candle to Kiana Lodge on the shores of Suquamish.

One can go out for dinner any time — the options abound. One could go out on the town, or to a tucked away steakhouse or even over to the city, but it’s likely that few of those locations could hold a candle to Kiana Lodge on the shores of Suquamish.

And it’s even more likely that this Friday’s Kitsap Community Resources dinner and fashion show at Kiana Lodge will be the only place one can get a gut-full of gourmet matched with an eye-full of fashion, while also seeing the Dream Girls and helping to raise money for a good cause all in the same evening.

The county organization’s annual fundraising event — entitled “Cruisin’ In Style” — will start its engines with dinner at 6 p.m. Oct. 5, the fashion show and entertainment to follow.

On the menu is a chicken marsala dinner prepared by the chefs at Kiana Lodge while the runway will be fashioned with digs from Macy’s and The Tux Shop on local models. Tickets are $40.

A hefty portion of the proceeds will be going toward the Kitsap Community Resources project called The Parenting Place which provides counseling and activities for Kitsap families in order to enrich parenting skills and the nurturing of children.

Six years ago, the program nearly disappeared due to a lack of funding, KCR organizer Lynne Lance said, adding that aiding its recovery, this dinner and fashion show provides a chunk of the program’s budget each year among other sources.

“We serve approximately 1,750 people a year through the program, and this is an integral part of the funding for it,” Lance said.

And it’s also a nice night out on the town, or a nice night on the shore as it were. Regardless, it should be an elegant affair.

Throughout its near six-year history, both the fashion show and venue have taken on different forms. The event has also been held in Kitsap country clubs, while the fashion show used to be a collection of wares from local boutiques.

But this year, as with last, Kiana Lodge — 14976 Sandy Hook Rd. outside of Poulsbo — will be the locale with major chain stores providing the fashion.

Former retail and fashion executive, now a fashion and marketing teacher at Central Kitsap High School, Madonna Hanna will again be spearheading the show and emceeing for the evening. And the Dream Girls music group will be providing an extra dash of entertainment.
