Capital program public meetings will be held by the North Kitsap School District at 6:30 p.m. April 15 at Kingston High School and 6:30 p.m. April 16 at North Kitsap High School.
The district is nearing the end of the Capital Bond Program approved by the voters in 2000. Work done with that $60 million bond funding included the construction of Kingston High School and renovations of Pearson, Poulsbo and Suquamish elementary schools, Poulsbo Middle School, Spectrum Community School, North Kitsap High School, swimming pool and auditorium. At this time, it appears there will be approximately a $1.2 million balance left at the completion of the projects on the bond list, according to the district.
Its Capital Facilities Advisory Committee is reviewing other district projects to recommend spending priorities to the school board. The school district and CFAC are hosting the public meetings to get input for suggested projects. CFAC is also beginning a study about what the long-term facilities needs are for the school district, recommending what may need to be renovated or constructed. Funding for future projects could also create the need for development of another bond proposal in the future.
