The North Kitsap School District is interviewing candidates this month to fill principal positions for North Kitsap High School and Kingston High School. NKHS Principal Roy Herrera resigned in February and will leave at the end of the school year. KHS Planning Principal Bruce Saari announced his retirement in March, effective June 30.
Parents, students, staff and community members are invited to meet Kathy Prasch, a finalist candidate for NKHS Principal position, at 7 p.m. May 1 at NKHS library. People who attend the meeting will be encouraged to provide written feedback about the candidate for the hiring team.
A meeting scheduled for April 26 with Gregory Rayl, the other finalist, was cancelled April 24 after Rayl withdrew his candidacy.
Prasch is currently principal of Santa Teresa High School in San Jose, Calif. She was previously vice principal of Concord High School and Clayton Valley High School. She received her administrative, master’s and bachelor’s degrees from California State University in Hayward.
The employment timeline for hiring the NKHS principal this month is: a North Kitsap School District team will visit the finalist’s district May 2-3; the search team will make a recommendation to the superintendent May 8; the superintendent will make a recommendation to the board of directors May 11. These may change due to Rayl’s withdrawel.
Initial interviews for the KHS principal take place May 4-9 with a final recommendation to the school board planned for May 25.
