POULSBO — They’re in the business of helping people find their dream homes but later this month one local real estate office will also help people who simply dream of owning a home.

The Poulsbo Prudential office will host its fourth annual yard sale Sept. 21 at its building on the corner of Highway 305 and Lincoln Road. The business is looking for people to donate items and also to come shop at the event, which benefits the Kitsap County Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organization that builds homes for those who may not otherwise be able to afford a home of their own.

“(Our employees) look forward to this every year although it’s a ton of work,” said sale coordinator Andrea Suraci. “The office is a mess for three weeks but it’s something that everybody pulls together and does it. They really find it a worthwhile effort.”

Local Habitat for Humanity Director Lori Oberlander said her organization usually tries to help with the sale as much as it can. She said Habitat volunteers alone could never put on such a large event, so they appreciate the Prudential staff’s long hours organizing the sale.

“It’s an inspiration, really, to know people care about others in need,” she said.

Last year’s sale raised $11,000 for the cause, which Oberlander said made a large difference for local Habitat projects.

“Eleven-thousand dollars buys a lot of nails and wood. I believe $11,000 will more than frame an entire house,” she added. “It costs us $45,000 to build a house from start to finish, so $11,000 certainly makes a huge dent in that.”

Donations of gently worn items will be taken at the Prudential office during business hours until Sept. 20.
