Buc football: Better effort, similar outcome
On Thursday the Bucs traveled to Klahowya and lost, 41-14.
After the Bucs difficult homecoming game, head coach Dan Novick said working on putting forth better effort would be key, and although the score didn’t reflect it Novick wrote in an e-mail the Bucs effort was much better.
“Our kids fought to the finish, and the game was much closer than the score indicated,” he wrote. “I was very proud of the character they showed coming off last week’s game.”
Stats: Lou Hecker, 76 yards on 13 carries, Travis Schriner, 69 yards on 13 carries, Paul Bagala completed nine passes for 106 yards and one touchdown and rushed the ball 13 yards on four carries for one touchdown.
On Friday the Bucs travel to Fife and return to the North Kitsap Stadium on Oct. 31 to play Steilacoom.
Viking tennis headed into post season
On Friday the Vikings traveled to Port Angles for the Olympic League championships. There was a double elimination doubles tournament and a double elimination singles tournament. Each tournament had two qualifiers for the district tournament in the spring. All of North’s 11 varsity players made the trip and a handful are moving on to the district tournament.
“It was very exciting and I was proud of each of the kids and how well they represented NK,” head coach Jay DeVries wrote in an e-mail.
Conner Gallagher and Jordan Seth placed second in the doubles tournament, and advance to districts.
“They beat a tough Olympic doubles team, who had previously beat them in the tournament, so it was great to see them rebound and beat them when it counted,” DeVries wrote.
No. 1 singles player Zach Fohn will accompany the doubles team to districts.
“Zach played as well as he has this season. He beat Justin Hike, Olympic’s number one, in the championship,” DeVries wrote. “Justin had not lost in the Olympic League all year, so Zach picked a great time to beat him in straight sets no less.”
Kingston’s women cross country runners sweep up
On Wednesday the Bucs hosted its final home cross country run against Bremerton and Kalhowya. The girls swept the top four places while the boys swept fourth through seventh.
Girls varsity results, three miles: first, Ruby Roberts, 18 minutes, 23 seconds; second, Marina Roberts, 19:19; third, Rose Bishop, 19:41; and fourth, Chloe Stamper, 22:31.
Boys varsity results, three miles: fourth, Nick Schippers, 17:13; fifth, Austin Cherry, 17:25; sixth, Mitch Murdock, 18:12; and seventh, Shane Hawthorn, 18:32.
On Thursday both Kingston and North Kitsap High attend the Olympic League Championship meet at Seven Cedars Golf Course.
North’s girls hold the top five fasted 3A Olympic League times for three miles: Annelise Weinmann, 18:24; Hilary Leonard, 18:42; Elizabeth Staker,18:53.25; Shawna Williams, 19:04; and Katie Tertocha, 19:11.
North’s boys hold the third and fourth and eighth and ninth fastest 3A three mile Olympic League times: fourth, Tabor Reedy, 15:31; fifth, Joel Brose,15:34.22; eighth, Tyler Spear, 16:06; and ninth, Lars Blazina, 16:17.
Kingston’s girls hold the first, second and fourth fastest 2A Olympic League three miles times: first, Ruby Roberts, 17:21.13; second, Marina Roberts, 17:48.90, and fourth, Rose Bishop, 18:23.46.
Kingston’s boys hold the first, second, fourth and sixth fastest 2A Olympic League three mile times: first, Justin Doud, 15:41.13; second, Schippers, 16:00.28, fourth, Cherry, 16:27.60; and sixth, Murdock, 17:07.58.
