POULSBO — North Kitsap residents can have their questions concerning changes the county plans to make in its recycling policy at a meeting to be held Friday, Feb. 22 in Poulsbo.
Officials from Kitsap County Solid Waste Division and members of the solid waste advisory committee will hold a special meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Poulsbo library.
The session will cover curbside recycling and elimination of the county’s voucher system, currently available to unincorporated areas.
In the near future, residents will be able to recycle many more items at curbside. Mixed paper, cardboard and most plastic containers will be added to the pick-up list.
“Customer surveys and comments consistently show that residents want to be able to recycle more items in the curbside recyclables,” explained Kitsap County Recycling Coordinator Dave Peters.
Officials will also answer questions and concerns about the elimination of the county’s voucher program for residents who self haul recyclables to area drop stations. The vouchers allowed local recyclers to receive credit on their garbage bills for recycling but are being discontinued for most patrons due to rising costs.
“We will continue to offer the exemption for low-income seniors and low-income disabled that corresponds to the state’s property exemption,” Peters added. For more information, contact Peters at 337-4898 or dpeters@co.kitsap.wa.us.
