Aqua-Vikes scorch out of winter break

POULSBO — Highlighted by senior Jeffrey Reeves’ 57.42 second finish in the 100 backstroke Thursday, the North Kitsap Vikings’ pool was steaming in their first meet back from the winter break.

Reeves’ finish is a state qualifying time, the first for NK this season.

As the Vikings faced Olympia Jan. 4 — in a 120-54 loss — there may not have been any other state qualifying times or a team victory garnered, but there were some impressive improvements NK head coach Greg Braun said.

Viking Ryan Eggers cut nine seconds off of his 200 freestyle time, earning third place on the afternoon before finishing fourth in the 100 back with a six second time drop.

NK’s Brandyn Stone and Brian Surber dropped seconds off of their respective 200 IM, finishing back-to-back at 2:48.35 (Surber) and 2:48.86 (Stone). The league qualifying time for the IM is 2:47.

North’s Aaron Bilbao turned in a great meet as well, Braun noted. He snagged second place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:16.22 (his best by six seconds).

The Vikings took on Central Kitsap Friday in a rescheduled meet, however results were unavailable at press time.

Next up, the Vikings will be on the road, traveling to South Kitsap Tuesday, and facing Stadium Thursday. Both meets begin at 3 p.m.
