Moving, shaking in Kingston

You’ve got to hand it to the movers and shakers of Kingston. They spend about a decade pushing, pulling and prying to get a passenger-only ferry connection to Seattle, they get it, it ceases operation after less than a year’s service and they continue to move forward.

The creation of the a Kingston stakeholders committee to focus solely on the community’s business core is a huge step toward fully exploring how to make the district more appealing and sustainable. The Historic Downtown Poulsbo Association — which seems to be a similar entity — has had tremendous success and there is no reason to think Kingston’s group won’t also exceed expectations.

But folks who have a stake in Kingston aren’t stopping at the downtown core. Unlike Poulsbo, it appears they are also working to address parking issues, get this, before they become a major problem. Any HDPA member will attest that Little Norway has very little parking.

Behzad Mostofi might be the president of Silverdale-based Construction Management Northwest, Inc., but he certainly seems to be on the same page as the stakeholders, the chamber of commerce and the Kingston Citizen Advisory Committee as far as improving and beautifying the Little City by the Sea goes.

Mostofi’s not only aiming to create an upscale development, which makes excellent use of the space available, at Kingston Station, he’s also taking an innovative look at parking. Actually, he’s hoping to put the “park” in parking by making a multi-use park ‘n’ ride that makes good use of existing green space along Lindvog Road.

What a concept. Just goes to show that Kingston’s not only on the cutting edge, it’s redefining what “the edge” is all about.
