Lions will be on the prowl starting Friday morning and Saturday great strides will be made for cystic fibrosis research in the North End, giving residents two opportunities to make a difference in the world around them.
Members of the Poulsbo Noon Lions Club may not have the same pretty faces as Girl Scouts selling their tempting cookies or the sad puppy dog looks of Boy Scouts hocking popcorn, but when it comes to sight preservation they’re among the best.
White Cane Days to benefit the Lions Club Northwest Lions Foundation for Sight and Hearing is this weekend and as Lion Elda Armstrong said every little bit helps. Miss Poulsbo Alex Duchimen will help lead the effort at Central Market Friday morning, but it will take the entire North End to keep those in need.
Many people take their sight for granted until it’s lost to an accident or disease, and without the Lions’ efforts many people would literally be in the dark.
The Lions will be everywhere from Bainbridge Island to Kingston, so give them a helping hand.
For the Oas family and others who have children or loved ones with cystic fibrosis, Saturday is a chance to take huge steps toward finding a cure for the deadly disease.
As they walk from Vinland Elementary School on Rhododendron Lane to Breidablik Elementary, participants will show that anything is possible when people put their hearts and souls into it.
Brianna Oas, who inspired the first walk 15 years ago, has seen it go from a small gathering of friends and family to one of the larger CF events in the state. Her accomplishments and attitude continue to amaze everyone, especially those who are unaware that she has the deadly disease.
This year’s goal is $30,000, and hopefully that number will not only be met, but surpassed by an overflow of generosity from the entire county.
Bring your horse, your Red Rider, bicycle or just your most comfortable pair of walking shoes and support two great causes this weekend in the North End.
