Transient burglars

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a trespass call at the Girl Scouts building in the 1600 block of NE Winters Road in East Bremerton around 10:30 a.m. May 11. The reporting person said two men were camping on the Girl Scouts property.

The 17-year-old and 21-year-old man told the deputy they were just packing up their stuff and leaving the property. The 17-year-old said he was homeless and had been allowed to camp there when a church owned the property.

The men had a green vehicle parked near them and the reporting person noted that some boards had been removed from the fence near the back of the building.

The deputy left and the reporting person called back five minutes later saying items were missing from the Girl Scouts building.

The deputy questioned the men about a missing ladder and they both denied knowing anything about it. The deputy spoke to a man who lives behind the Girl Scouts building and the man discovered he was missing several items from his garage including an air compressor, fabric chairs, fishing poles, reciprocating saw and golf clubs.

The homeowner and deputy met the two men where the green vehicle was parked and the homeowner said many of the items inside the vehicle belonged to him.

The 17-year-old said he was sorry and he stole the goods because he needed money and food.

The 17-year-old was arrested and booked into juvenile detention for second-degree burglary and second-degree possession of stolen property.

The 21-year-old was arrested and booked into jail on the same charges. He was later released.

Lurking in

the shadows

A newspaper delivery person called police shortly after 2:30 a.m. May 12 to report a suspicious person at Hank’s Grocery on Chico Way NW in Central Kitsap. The caller said the man was standing in the shadows.

A sheriff’s deputy arrived and saw the 29-year-old Central Kitsap man come out from behind a vending machine. He said he was charging his phone with the external power outlet on the building.

The man admitted he had a gun in his waistband and did not have a concealed pistol license to carry it.

The man was arrested and booked into jail for violation of firearms possession. He was released on personal recognizance.
