PORT ORCHARD — In an early tribute to sweethearts everywhere, the Western Washington Center for the Arts is inviting couples to a night of love songs in a romantic setting Feb. 2.

“Here’s to Love!” will feature a myriad of WWCA singers. The event will be emceed and hosted by local comedian and actor Erik Furuheim.

“We’re promoting it as a way for men to get a leg up on their wives,” said musical director Bruce Ewen. Flowers, more than likely roses, will also be available at the concert, adding a certain something to the evening.

Melodies such as “At Last,” “Close to You,” “Unforgettable,” “It Takes Two,” “Let’s Do It, Let’s Fall In Love” and “My Funny Valentine” will be sung by Leslie Niemi, Dan and Leslie Engelhard, Rene Hoffman, Dray Young, Bree Armentrout, Ewen’s daughters, Bekah and Rachel, and his wife, Jan.

“Basically these are songs that the singers liked, and wanted to sing,” Ewen said. “We do a lot of musicals, but we didn’t want to limit it to just musical songs.”

The evening will also include baskets full of goodies for couples, all with the theme of bringing boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands and wives closer together for Valentine’s Day.

The concert, which will also serve as a fund raiser for the WWCA to fund future performances and productions, is the group’s first Valentine’s Day-related event, he said. It won’t be the last if it strikes a chord with Kitsap residents, though.

The serenading will start at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2 at the WWCA theatre, 521 Bay Street, Port Orchard. Tickets are $10 per person. Interested couples should call in advance as seating is limited. For more information and reservations, contact the group at (360) 769-7469.
