The all-county team, made up of eligible players from schools in Kitsap County, was voted on by the sports editors and writers of the Kitsap News Group, including the Port Orchard Independent, Bainbridge Review, Bremerton Patriot, Central Kitsap Reporter and North Kitsap Herald.
F — Becca Schoales, South Kitsap High School, sophomore: Schoales, who is a member of the U-15 U.S. National team and tentatively is scheduled to play in the 2012 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, scored a team-high 17 goals and added seven assists to help the Wolves to the West Central District playoffs.
F — Delanee Nilles, North Kitsap High School, junior: She was the top scorer on the Viking team with 14 goals and 10 assists and splits her time between high school soccer and Issaquah’s Eastside FC. She is also in a state-wide pool of finalists for the national U17 team. Nilles has been a driving force on the team since she began playing during her freshman year.
F — Gabby Tyner, Olympic High School, sophomore: Tyner was a scoring machine for the Trojans, leading the Olympic League and Kitsap County in scoring with 19 goals as Olympic came within a game of qualifying for the 3A state tournament.
MF — Kirsten Anthony, Central Kitsap High School, senior: She was “the glue that held us all together,” said head coach Vicky Webb. With three goals and four assists, she kept things together for the Cougars this season and earned a full ride to Division I Southern Utah.
MF — Kayla VanAntwerp, Central Kitsap, junior: VanAntwerp was a perfect complement to Anthony as she had three goals and eight assists.
MF — Riley Dopps, South Kitsap, senior: Perhaps the most versatile player on the team — Dopps has played defender, forward and midfielder during her career — the Seattle Pacific University commit finished with six goals and five assists despite missing time while she had mononucleosis.
“Dopps brings a tremendous work rate, speed and endurance,” Cain said. “She’s a very skilled, smart player.”
D — Miranda Caballero, South Kitsap, sophomore: Caballero, who had four assists this season, not only is asked to stymie an opponent’s offense, but stimulate scoring opportunities for South.
D — Taylor Gillespie, Central Kitsap, senior: Along with Anthony, Gillespie was voted as the team’s most valuable player. Webb said she was the team’s best defender and a good reason why the Cougars only gave up 12 goals over 16 games this season.
D — Jessica Haga, Klahowya Secondary School, sophomore: Head coach Troy Oelshlager said Haga was the anchor of the Eagles defense and played a major part in a back line that only gave up seven goals all season.
D — Delaney Digiovanni, South Kitsap, sophomore: Digiovanni is another member of the Wolves’ talent-laden 2013 class. She finished with one goal and one assist this year, but Cain said her primary role was to keep opponents from scoring.
“She’s just an aggressive, tenacious defender,” Cain said. “She just never gives up.”
GK — Marilyn Prosser, Central Kitsap, junior: Prosser kept nine clean sheets this season and only allowed two goals in one game.
Coach — Troy Oelshlager, Klahowya: Oelshlager had the right tactics all season as he led the Eagles to a 13-2-2 record and the quarterfinals of the 2A state tournament.
