POULSBO — With a playoff berth already secured, North Kitsap soccer team’s eight seniors used Senior Night to leave one more lasting memory in the minds of the underclassmen and fans Monday night.

Vikings seniors Mike Catania, Seth Dougherty, Matt Hildebrand, Kevin Joines, James May, Aaron Norton, Juraj Popluhar and Matt Romero reveled in the sweetness of a 5-1 win over Klahowya at North Kitsap Stadium. All eight seniors started in their final home game of the season.

“I thought our seniors played really well tonight,” Vikings coach Chris May said. “We also had a lot of young players get some playing time, and they did a good job. All of our starters pretty much had the night off except the seniors.”

Catania scored two goals (18th minute, 53rd minute) leading the scoring parade for the Vikings. Catania’s second goal was extra special, considering he received it from his little brother, sophomore Bobby Catania.

“We have always played together in the backyard but never have played in a game together,” Mike Catania said. “I was happy to score a few goals on Senior Night ,but it’s even better when you get an assist from your brother. It was really special.”

Kevin Joines (14th minute) and Matt Romero (34th minute) rounded out the scoring for the seniors, chipping in a goal apiece for North. Sophomore Charlie Brand (28th minute) added another score for North.

James May had two assists and Chris Hall added another assist for the Vikings.

The Vikings hosted Mount Tahoma in a Narrows League loser-out playoff game on Tuesday night. As of press time, results of this contest were unavailable.

May said Mount Tahoma’s strength is its defensive backfield.

“They have a pretty good defense,” May said. “We have to come out and go right after them offensively. We have to come ready to play. I think we’re ready for them.”
