POULSBO — The North Kitsap baseball team has won back-to-back games, topping Olympic Friday 11-7, then defeating Central Kitsap on Monday 9-5.
Peder Rauen won the first game for North Kitsap, aided by relief outings by Danny Purser and Chris Carlsen.
“The NK bats are starting to heat up,” said head coach Steve Frease, whose Vikings pounded four home runs at the Fairgrounds in order to get past the Trojans. Brian Leibold led the way on Friday with three hits, one of them a home run. Leibold scored a pair of runs in the win as well, but he was not the only Viking to distinguish himself; Derek Deeter was 2-for-4 with a home run, Patrick Gilbert also homered, Jordan Stout cracked a pair of hits, Chris Carlsen hit a two-run double, and Quinn Mouser drove Carlsen in for a game-clinching run.
The Vikings’ defense also continued to improve, as Anthony Zuvela, Leibold, Daniel Peck, Carlsen, and Deeter pleased Frease with their infield play.
Against Central Kitsap, pitcher Kyle Howe went six innings and struck out nine Cougars while only yielding one walk.
The Vikings bats were still warm, with Patrick Gilbert going 3-for-3, scoring two runs and knocking two RBIs.
Leibold went 1-for-3 with two runs scored; Daniel Peck went 2-for-3 with a double; Jordan Stout was 2-for-4 and had two RBIs; Daniel Peck went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Quinn Mouser also had a good game, going 2-for-2 as the Vikings defeated Cougar starter Tim Allen.
Howe was followed on the mound by Carlsen and Leibold.
The Vikings did not commit any errors.
The Vikings, who have now elevated their record to 3-4 in league, faced South Kitsap Tuesday afternoon (weather permitting), results of which were unavailable. They will host North Thurston at 3:45 p.m. tomorrow, then host Bremerton April 22.
