Falling under the “it just makes sense” category in the upcoming elections is the Emergency Medical Services Levy.

The real beauty of this one is that voters have been backing EMS funding consistently for over two decades. All the levy does is make our support of 50 cents per $1,000 assessed property valuation “permanent.”

The EMS package basically creates a win-win scenario in which North Kitsap Fire & Rescue and the Poulsbo Fire Department #18 continue to offer their services without having to toil through the expensive election process every six years.

Taxpayers save money and those involved in Emergency Medical Services keep saving lives. If assessments rise, the rate can even drop below the 50 cent mark and, if the voters later deem it necessary, the EMS levy can later be dropped altogether.

Not that folks in North Kitsap would do very well without the ambulances, paramedics, EMTs, medical supplies and training that are so essential to our quality of life here. Nonetheless, the option is there.

We see the EMS as a slam dunk on a four-foot hoop where there are no losers. Vote YES on EMS.
