The 26th president of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, was commonly known in his time as a bull, a progressive, an activist, a Republican, a showman and a controversialist. In this latter vein, he also holds the title of “youngest president of the United States.”

Though President John Kennedy was the youngest elected President at the age of 43, when President William McKinley was assassinated in 1901, Roosevelt took the reins of the country at the dawn of a new century at age 42.

The story of the years which followed is coming to Bremerton’s Admiral Theatre this weekend. TV spot announcer/stage and film actor Rick May is taking on the bold role in “Bully” part of the Admiral’s First Person Series at 7 p.m. May 3. Tickets are $15.

The thought-provoking one-man show, which is said to meet historical standards of accuracy, delves into conservation, judicious diplomacy and the government’s role in regulating business — three of the biggest issues on Roosevelt’s plate.

It’s striking how relevant those issues still are now, seven years into the 21st century. And while the show admittedly may not offer much resolution, it aims to capture the spirit of TR and cook up some presidential food for thought.
