“KINGSTON – For Emma Lawson, 2, the fun house held Sunday at the Kingston Community Center offered all of the treats with none of the tricks. The Kingston Jr. High Kiwanis Builders’ Club transformed the community center into a cobwebbed maze with games and candy. Children younger than age eight could fish, toss bean bags, toss horseshoes and grab plastic duckies for prizes. The fun house was organized a few years ago in response to the community’s concern that haunted houses were too scary for young children, said Builders’ Club co-President J.J. Proudfoot. Members of the Builder’s Club seemed to have as much fun at the event as the younger kids. The junior high students dressed up in costumes and assisted the youngsters with the games. Proudfoot, who was dressed as an orange M&M, was joined by many of her classmates in orchestrating the fun house. I think it’s a cool thing to help the community, she said. Rachel Cryer agreed. She was dressed as a witch and posed with the children as they got their picture taken. It’s neat helping the community and I love to dress up, she said. Candy and prizes were donated by area businesses. The fun house also collected food donations from those who visited.
