INDIANOLA — Commuters in the Indianola neighborhood now have more opportunities to get to and from the North Kitsap Ferries during rush hour.

Kitsap Transit has added three additional stops at the Indianola Clubhouse this week for Route 91.

In the morning, a 7:10 a.m. stop has been added for service from the clubhouse to the Bainbridge Island Ferry. The bus will arrive at the ferry at 7:40 a.m.

A slight change has also been made at the Kingston Terminal in the morning, as the 4:35 a.m. pick up point has been moved from the dock to Iowa and Highway 104.

In order to catch a bus back to Indianola in the evening, riders have two options.

Commuters can take the 5:20 p.m. Express to Suquamish/Division from Bainbridge Island to the Suquamish Park and Ride and transfer to another bus that takes them directly to Indianola, arriving at the clubhouse at 5:52 p.m.

Or they can catch the 7 p.m. bus from Bainbridge that will drop them off at the Indianola Club house at 7:30 p.m.

Neither evening bus will go on to Kingston Ferry Terminal.

Commuters on the 5:20 p.m. service have been asking for the agency to restore service to Indianola, said Dave Johnson, the service planner for KT.

After some rearranging with some busses, Johnson was able to add an extra bus to the evening runs, he said, noting that the 5:20 p.m. and 6:10 p.m. busses are the two heaviest runs from Bainbridge Island.

Service to Indianola existed until 1999 when Initiative 695 passed and the agency had to cut services. The commuter runs through Hansville were recently restored in December 2002, and had been cut after I-695 passed as well.

“It’s just another restoration of the services,” Johnson said, noting the agency is bringing back services when it can afford to. “This is what they had beforehand.”
