BANGOR — Members of the Seattle Seahawks organization and retired players will rally with fans in Bangor and Bremerton on Jan. 6.

The Sea Gals, Blitz, Blue Thunder and former Seahawks players will bring their Blue Friday Rally to the brick courtyard at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor from 10:30-11:15 a.m., then will move on to Bremerton waterfront for a 1 p.m. rally.

According to the Seahawks organization, it will be the first time a Blue Friday Rally will take place on this side of Puget Sound.

The Seahawks meet the Detroit Lions in a first-round NFC playoff game at 5:15 p.m., Jan. 7 at Century Link Field.

The event at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor is open to those with base access. “Everyone with base access is invited to don their blue and green and attend the event,” the public affairs office noted in an announcement of the event. The brick courtyard is located in the entertainment complex near the movie theater.

Bremerton Mayor Patty Lent said she anticipates a crowd of up to 4,000 at the waterfront rally later that day. (Current players are unlikely to attend, since they will be in intense game preparation mode.)

Lent will hoist a “12” flag in honor of the fans who serve as a “12th Man” on the field with their deafening cheers. The flag will then be presented to the City of Bremerton. Lent said that each of the Navy ships moored along the Bremerton waterfront — aircraft carriers Nimitz and Stennis, and the USS Turner Joy, among others — would fly a 12th Man flag during the game on Jan. 7.

Lent said that while the city is excited to host the event, preparing for it took a fairly intense mobilization effort on the part of police, parks and fire departments.

“We’re very excited to host the Blue Friday Rally,” Lent said. “There are a lot of Seahawk fans in Kitsap County and especially in Bremerton. It’s a win for the county and a win for the team. Go Hawks!”
