For hundreds — perhaps thousands — of devoted Debbie Macomber-files, Saturday night’s Character Parade, followed by an old-fashioned sock hop at Waterfront Park in Port Orchard, offered a chance to commune not only with the celebrated author herself, but also with the men and women who inhabit the pages of her bestselling books.
Arriving in a variety of classic cars to the cheers of those lining the streets, Port Orchard’s mayor, police chief, a minister, a firefighter and others played the part of their fictional alter egos from Cedar Cove, the setting for many of Macomber’s yarns that is based on her home town of Port Orchard.
From the looks of things, the actors and actresses had as good a time and the visitors while posing for photos, waving to onlookers and generally hamming it up.
