NK boys ranked 10th, girls 16th in new state ranking system | Prep basketball

POULSBO — The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association released last week the first Rating Percentage Index for boys’ and girls’ basketball teams.

The index, or RPI, will be used by the WIAA to help determine the 16 teams making it to the state tournament in each classification. The RPI is determined by a formula taking into account win percentage, opponents’ win percentage, opponents’ opponents’ win percentage, and strength of schedule.

The North Kitsap boys (11-2) are ranked No. 10 of 65 Class 2A teams. Kingston (10-3) is ranked 21.

The North Kitsap girls (10-3) are ranked at No. 16; Olympic (10-3) is ranked at No. 12. They are the highest-ranked teams in the Olympic League 2A Division.
