More than 100 former members of the South Kitsap High School drill team from 1951 to 1998 are planning to attend a reunion on May 17 at the Clubhouse at the McCormick Woods Golf Course. The event is from 6:30-10:30 p.m.
According to event coordinator Joy McFate Lee, 111 former drill team members have signed up for the reunion as of May 9.
“The reunion will include dinner, along with tables of photographs and memorabilia,” she said.
Lee said seven former drill team advisors are planning to attend the reunion.
“Some of them are from the early 1970s,” she said.
She said there are four members from the Class of 1960 who have planned to attend.
“They will be the oldest members attending,” Lee said. “We have some coming from the Class of 1997. So we have members during about a 40-year period.”
She said most members are from the 1970s and early 1980s.
“We do have a wide variety which I am pleased with,” said Lee.
Lee said research helped identify about 815 former drill team members from yearbooks and other material.
“We’ve had communicated with more than 300 of them through Facebook,” she added. “I would have loved to reach everybody, but I’m pleased with the number we’ve reached so far.”
Lee said about 79 former members are planning to participate in the 66th annual Bremerton Armed Forces Day Parade, which begin at 10 a.m. May 17.
“They will take as a separate entry right behind the SKHS marching band,” Lee said.
A meet-and-greet is planned from 6-8 p.m. May 16 at Buck’s A&W in Port Orchard.
“It’s a very casual gathering, nothing fancy,” Lee noted. “It will be for anyone who is in town or wants to stop by.”
She said all former drill team members will receive a free root beer float from A&W.
Lee said no tickets will be sold at the door.
