BROWNSVILLE—As of Friday afternoon Jan. 20, Kitsap County Public works had reopened Brownsville Highway NE between the traffic light on Highway 303 and and Illahee Road.

The road was closed about 4 a.m. Friday morning after a large tree fell across the highway about a quarter mile north of the Highway 303 traffic light.

The falling tree also damaged power lines on at least four utility poles on the other side of the road. Power to Brownsville Marina and the surrounding area was lost but was restored around 6 a.m.

Adding to area residents’ early morning woes, a freezing fog settled on the area during the night. While it created feather-like lacy patterns on the roofs of cars, it also settled on sidewalks and docks, creating an almost invisible layer of ice that made walking treacherously slippery.
