SOUTH KITSAP — The Godfreys cleaned up at the 2017 HotFoot 5K Run June 24 at South Kitsap Regional Park.

C.J. Godfrey won the 16th annual Fathoms O’ Fun event with a top finishing time of 17:43. His wife Kelsi Godfrey was the top female competitor with a time of 21:25. Both competed in the 30-39 age-group category.

A new divisional course record was set this year by Emma Orser in the women’s 14 and under category. Her finishing time was 21:44, breaking an 11-year record set by Hannah Mitterstedt in 2006 of 22:22.

R.S. “Scott” Lucke, the event’s race director, said he was gratified to hear many competitors express their approval of the course. “Many also recommended keeping that course for future years,” Lucke said. “Of course, the regulars know that the HotFoot course is periodically affected by the improvements of the park.”

Lucke said getting a new course developed was a challenge since portions of the park are being logged. He said nine areas were identified as needing special attention. Kitsap County Parks and Recreation crews removed the hazards in time for the race.

A one-mile race also was staged at the park. Alisa Young was the top overall finisher with a time of 8:20. James Geiger was the top male finisher at 12:26. Sidney Smith was second overall with a time of 10:31. Emily Young was close behind at 10:36.
