BREMERTON — Two Bremerton police officers confronted a 35-year-old man in the department’s secured parking lot at about 11 p.m. Sept. 14. According to Lt. Mike Davis, the man had scaled a fence and hidden behind a vehicle.

The man approached the officers with his hands in his pockets. The officers asked him to show his hands. He pulled them out of his pockets — along with two large kitchen knives — and kept coming at the officers.

Both officers drew their weapons and directed the man to get down on the ground. The man complied and was taken into custody.

He allegedly was high on methamphetamine and had a suicide note pinned to his chest, Davis reported.

Later, the man told officers he did not have the courage to stab himself and had wanted the officers to shoot him. Before he had lost his nerve, he had planned to rush the officers and force them to kill him, Davis reported.

The man was taken to the hospital for a mental-health evaluation, and then booked into Kitsap County Jail on suspicion of burglary and second-degree assault, Davis reported.
