As we approach World Food Day on Oct. 16 and are reminded of the UN statistics that globally 795 million people remain undernourished, we are uplifted by a community that, instead of being overwhelmed by any statistics or daunted by the magnitude of a problem, simply embraces the task, rolls up its sleeves and starts to make a difference right here at home, one person at a time.

On Sept. 15 and 16, after months of impeccable planning, members of Poulsbo Lions Club and Poulsbo Rotary Club joined forces once again to conduct their annual food drive to benefit North Kitsap Fishline Food Bank. Stalwart Rotarians and Lions stationed themselves at the doors of Central Market, Red Apple Market and Walmart to collect donations for Fishline. And once again, neighbors were more than willing to help their neighbors by donating 6,565 pounds of food and $3,208.

To these two amazing service organizations, three willing grocers and this community of givers, the scope of your generosity makes it possible for us to do what we do.
