SEQUIM — Following their first loss of the season, Sequim (3-1) swam to its third victory on Sept. 28 at the YMCA of Sequim over last place Bremerton (0-4).

The 98-73 win was Sequim’s fifth victory in a row, in five years, over the Knights.

Sequim’s Jasmine Itti cut 0.5 seconds from her 50 free time, which puts her within about 0.5 second from a state-qualifying time, while Meguire Vander Velde qualified for districts in the 200 free (2:15.16).

Next, Bremerton was at No. 2 Port Angeles on Oct. 5, facing some strong competition as the Knights work for their first win. The Divisional Invitational, where swimmers have one more opportunity to qualify for the postseason, is set for Oct. 24 at Port Angeles.

Olympic boys third, girls second at PT | Cross Country

PORT TOWNSEND — Port Townsend sophomore Nathan Cantrell edged Sequim’s Murray Bingham for the top individual time, but Bingham’s Sequim Wolves proved to be too deep for the 1A squad.

Sequim placed five runners in the top 10 as they swept a dual meet at the Port Townsend Golf Club on Sept. 27.

The Wolves scored 30 team points, with Port Townsend second (35) and Olympic third (61).

Cantrell paced the young Redhawks with a 10:31 finish on the two-mile course, with Bingham just six-tenths of a second back.

Led by individual winner Ally Bradley (13:31), the host Redhawks won the girls’ race with 26 points, with Olympic second (42 points) and Sequim third (58).

The Olympic League championship meet is scheduled for Oct. 19 at The Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course in Sequim.
