BAINBRIDGE ISLAND — Audrey Hickey is described as a “gentle, kind soul,” someone given to writing thank you notes to servers at restaurants when dining out, a former Girl Scout who loves art and books and horses.

Today, police and residents are searching for the 15-year-old Bainbridge High School student, who was last seen by a teacher on campus at 11 a.m. Oct. 23.

She’s struggled with depression and is considered at risk, family friend Deborah Crews said. Her message to Audrey: “You’re part of this community. You’re loved. Come back.”

Audrey was seen on school surveillance video at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 23 and a teacher reported seeing her on campus at 11 a.m., Crews said. It was the last time Audrey was seen. Her family reported her missing later that day.

“If anyone has any information or has seen her, please call 911. Don’t hesitate,” Bainbridge Police Chief Matthew Hamner said. “We are extremely concerned for her and want her found, and we want to be able to talk to her and reunite her with her family.”

Audrey is described as being 5-foot-3 and 105 pounds, with long, pale green hair. She was last seen wearing a cream-colored shirt, black jacket and black pants.

Members of the community are noting where they’ve searched on a Facebook page, Bainbridge Islanders Searching for Audrey. Fliers are being posted throughout the island and in Poulsbo, with the assistance of postal carriers.

Crews said Audrey is not believed to have left the island by ferry, but nothing is being ruled out. She’s not seen on security video at the Bainbridge Island ferry terminal, and Crews worked the shift at the terminal at the time Audrey went missing and didn’t see here there. Neither did another friend who worked at the terminal that day.

Crews was one of six neighbors who searched the Grand Forest beginning at 3 a.m. Oct. 24. “There were 30-plus people looking from 7 p.m. on” throughout the island, she said. “When we got back [from the Grand Forest], there was a push of people who wanted to help.”

Family friend Jennifer Wiegand of Poulsbo said the search has extended into the Poulsbo area. Wiegand said anyone with information about Audrey’s whereabouts will face “no recriminations” for sharing information leading to her safe return home.

“We just want her back and safe,” Wiegand said.
